Manipulation influences your behaviour through guilt, obligation, flattery, pity or fear rather than honest conversation. Love bombing is one intense form of it: overwhelming affection, attention, gifts or future-planning very early on, or after harm, which can create a sense of debt and make later mistreatment harder to name.
- Extremely fast intensity — 'soulmates', moving in, commitment within weeks
- Grand gestures that arrive right after an argument or betrayal
- Guilt when you set a limit: 'after everything I've done for you'
- Pity that turns your concern into responsibility for their behaviour
