Complex trauma often develops in the context of relationships, so it's common for its effects to show up most clearly in relationships too — even ones that are safe and caring in the present.
People sometimes recognise
- Longing for closeness, but pulling away once it's offered
- Assuming people will eventually leave, hurt, or be disappointed
- Difficulty trusting good treatment, or waiting for 'the catch'
- Over-giving, over-explaining, or shrinking to keep the peace
- Intense reactions to perceived rejection, even very small ones
The Trauma Bonds, Attachment Styles and Trauma & Relationships modules explore these patterns in far more depth, if any of this resonates.
